Welcome to the second incarnation of the Sopo Art-Bike Auction. The first installment was in 2008 and while featuring more frames, these frames were only available for viewing at one location and for sale on one night.
This year we decided to take what was learned three years ago and reinvent the idea of a bicycle frame show. The show is in some ways more streamlined however it is also more accessible to a broader audience. We can definitely say that the amount of Atlanta cyclists has vastly increased since the original show and while we are still somewhat of a niche community in our city, we are quite a multicultural group spreading across all ethnicities and income levels. Cycling is a common bond to many of us roaming the streets of Atlanta and we at Sopo try to do our part to get more people riding and more importantly keep people riding.
As we live in all neighborhoods around the city, we have decided to decorate some of our favorite establishments around the town with art-bikes for the month of September and encourage everyone to visit the participating venues to view the frames and if they like them, bid on the frames using our first ever online auction system.
The bicycles will be on display until the end of September but bidding on the frames will remain open until the evening of the final reception.
On October 7th the final reception will be held in the Rodriguez Room at the Goat Farm. In addition to the thirteen bicycle frames featured throughout September, another five frames and additional bicycle-related artwork will be on display and auction this night only!
We at Sopo are very excited to be putting on this event again and hope to see all of these bikes come back through our shop to be built up as unique rideable art! We also hope that viewing this art will inspire more individuals to get creative with the appearance of their bicycle frame. This show is about much more than colored wheels and handgrips; we’re showcasing handpainted steel.
We hope to see you out and enjoying the show!
